The lobby shop Shockey Scofield Solutions has hired a senior aide from a House Appropriations subcommittee.
Martin Delgado spent six years on the House Appropriations Agriculture Subcommittee as a staff director. Jeff Shockey, the firm’s founder, called Delgado’s knowledge of food and agriculture policy “unparalleled.”
“There is a lot of opportunity in the [Food and Drug Administration] FDA and food arenas and Delgado's expertise and experience will enable us to maximize those opportunities,” he said in a statement.
The Agriculture subcommittee crafts an appropriations bill to fund agencies including the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Delgado specialized in food safety programs, but also concentrated on the FDA’s other regulatory capabilities – over pharmaceutical, medical device and tobacco products.
Shockey Scofield Solutions earned almost $3.5 million in revenue last year. The firm’s clients include Boeing, T-Mobile, Halliburton, Lightsquared, Northrop Grumman and the American Silencer Association, a trade group representing gun silencer manufacturers.
Before House Appropriations Committee Chairman Rep. Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) designated him the lead staffer on the Agriculture subcommittee, Delgado worked as the Republican’s primary aide on the House Appropriations’ Military Construction and Veteran Affairs Subcommittee.
